- Wright Consulting Services, Inc., Portland/Seattle (1994-present)
-
Participated in a design and development team on a project to redesign a data warehouse for a high-tech manufacturer. Analyzed and designed replacement tables using Oracle Designer 6i; analyzed, designed, developed and tested data loading processes using Oracle PL/SQL and Quest SQL Navigator in an Oracle 8i database running on DEC Alpha UNIX.
- Created, performance-tuned, and implemented a set of PL/SQL packages and stored procedures used to load and transform external data into a data warehouse. These interfaces process between 500,000 and 1 million records per day, from both external data files and remote databases, and were developed using PL/SQL 8.0 and implemented on an Oracle database running under HP UNIX. The transformed data is used to support a wide variety of management, financial, and operational reporting needs for a large telecommunications company.
- Converted a consulting firm's work-in-process and client billing system from Oracle character mode tools to Oracle Developer Forms 5.0 in a client-server Microsoft Windows environment. Also designed and developed Oracle Forms applications allowing management-level employees to monitor and manage client, engagement, backlog, and pipeline data.
- Developed applications to manage a telecommunications company's telephone cards. Software was created to provide querying, transactional, and reporting functions for customer support, product management, finance, and external user groups. Applications were developed using Oracle Forms (Oracle Developer) under Microsoft Windows.
- Led a project to convert more than 120 reports in a large application to the graphical Oracle Reports tool (Oracle Developer) from character-mode Oracle SQL*ReportWriter 1.1. Developed standards and procedures, converted many of the reports, and redesigned reports to take advantage of graphical features available in the new environment.
- Designed and developed a system for producing, scanning, processing, and statistically reporting student evaluation surveys for employer-provided training at a major manufacturer. This system, implemented using an Oracle database and Oracle tools and running on IBM mainframe and HP Unix minicomputer platforms, facilitates the ongoing evaluation of instruction provided to more than 60,000 employees, and is integrated into the company's larger Training Management System.
- Designed and developed an administrative information system for a northwest non-profit organization. Identified and assessed requirements, converted the existing database to a relational model using Microsoft Access, constructed an application to maintain donor and customer data, and designed query and report templates that enabled the client to develop reporting capabilities without outside assistance.
- Integrated several standalone information systems related to employee training into an existing centralized Training Management System. These integration projects included major enhancements to the functionality of the central system and allowed the company to realize considerable savings by eliminating the standalone systems.

- ECG Management Consultants, Inc., Seattle (1990-1994)
- Conducted a criminal history baseline audit and needs assessment for a northwestern state law enforcement agency. Interviewed personnel and reviewed records and operations at local agencies; and assessed the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of criminal history reporting.
- Worked as technical quality assurance auditor of a systems development project for a western state's motor vehicle agency. Performed periodic status and schedule reporting, assessed ongoing user involvement, and monitored all design, construction, testing, and implementation activities. Made repeated warnings in reports of schedule lag and potential technical problems, some of which remained unresolved at the time of system implementation. Performance problems, system failures, and subsequent cost overruns caused a major public relations crisis for the client, a situation which may have been averted had earlier warnings been heeded.
- Redesigned a midwestern state's central criminal history information system. Modeled processes using KnowledgeWare Workbench, developed coding standards, and designed system screens, reports, and batch processes.
- Designed interfaces for the electronic transfer of arrest and court disposition data from local criminal justice agencies to a statewide criminal history repository.
- Converted a consulting firm's work-in-process and client billing system to an Oracle client-server database in a local area network environment. Designed database, converted data, developed coding standards, and constructed the system's screens, batch processes, and external interfaces.
- Constructed and developed coding standards for a water quality permit management system for a state-level environmental agency, using an Oracle system solution operating in a client-server mode in a local area network environment.
- Assisted a major medical school with the design, development, and implementation of administrative applications to support the school's faculty, student, and research funding information needs.
- Developed technical systems documentation for a major labor trust organization. This project included the detailed review of 13 major application areas in diverse computing environments supporting 11 user departments. The resulting documentation was used as the basis for the design of an integrated replacement system to be developed using relational database technology in a LAN-based Microsoft Windows computing environment.
- Primary consultant on an engagement to assist the community colleges of a western state with baseline design and implementation planning for a statewide data collection system. The purpose of this system is to collect a wide variety of student, faculty, and institution-specific data to support the colleges' diverse federal, state, and accreditation-related reporting requirements.
